Professor Toomas Toomsoo is an Estonian neurologist specializing in movement and memory disorders, with significant work in headache medicine. He is Professor of Neurology at Tallinn University and heads the Internal Medicine Clinic at Confido Medical Centre.
A University of Tartu graduate (1996), he completed his neurology residency in 2001 and led the neurology center at East Tallinn Central Hospital (2006–2021). His PhD, defended in 2019 in collaboration with the University of Tübingen, focused on transcranial brain sonography in Parkinson’s disease. At Confido, he established a new neurology center and now oversees ten specialties.
Prof. Toomsoo is a member of multiple international neurological societies, manages four research grants, and has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles. His research includes polygenic risk scores for neurodegenerative diseases, brain ultrasound, and international collaborations. He has supervised doctoral and master’s students and was the first in Estonia to initiate Alzheimer’s treatment with monoclonal antibodies.
He has authored two books, contributes regularly to public healthcare discussions, and serves as guest editor for Biomedicine. Guided by the belief that “the more you know, the more you see,” he continues to explore new research fields, including the study of super-aging versus neurodegeneration.
